LMC Women Gain Valuable Experience at Competitive 5K Invitational
Big-field race test for freshmen as Red Hawks continue early-season development
The Lake Michigan College women's cross country team took on a deep and competitive field in the women's 5,000-meter race at the Lansing CC Invitational, gaining valuable racing experience against NCAA and community college programs from across the region.
All five LMC runners competing in the race were freshmen, highlighting the program's youth as it continues to build depth and experience early in the season. Ayana Harris was the top finisher for the Red Hawks, crossing the line in 23:30.1 to place 39th overall in a field of nearly 70 runners. Harris maintained a steady pace throughout the race while navigating a challenging pack and varying competition levels.
Evelyn Bettig followed closely behind, finishing 57th with a time of 25:16.1, while Makenna Rigg posted a personal record of 29:02.6 to place 63rd, marking a significant milestone early in her collegiate career. Ariel Smith finished just seconds later in 29:10.3 for 64th, and Olivia Howard rounded out the LMC lineup with a time of 31:06.7, finishing 67th.
The Red Hawks will look to build on this performance as they prepare for their next meet, aiming to translate experience into improved times and stronger team results.
