Red Hawks End 1-2 At GRCC Invitational
The Red Hawks traveled to GRCC for the Raider Invitational this weekend.
The team faced the Chiefs of Waubonsee in the first match of the day sweeping them in three 25-16, 25-16, 25-19. In the second match of the day, the team faced Carl Sandburg. The Red Hawks started strong defeating the Chargers in a close 25-23 game. The Chargers came out strong in games two and three defeating the Red Hawks 25-14, and 25-16. The women continued to battle in game four securing the win 26-24. In the fifth set, the Red Hawks lead most of the way but were unable to pull off the upset and lost 13-15. It was a great match and the team played tremendously. On day two, the team played host GRCC. The women came out strong battling the Raiders point for point in a very tight three game match. Unfortunately, the Raiders offense proved to be a bit more efficient, and GRCC earned the win 25-21, 25-23, 25-20.
The offensive players of tournament were Jillian Bruckner with 40 kills, a .225 hitting percentage. Payton Miller had 22 kills and a .286 hitting percentage while Sammi Jurgensen had 20 kills and Mackenzie Ash had 14 kills. The defensive players of the weekend were Jessica Hand with 38 digs, 13 assists and one ace while Kaylee McDaniel earned 34 digs, 83 assists, and eight aces.
Next up the Red Hawks take on Kellogg Community College Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at home for the second round of conference play.
