Competitive Play Started In Illinois For The Red Hawks
The Lake Michigan College volleyball team ended the weekend 1-3 at the OWT tourney in Rockford, Illinois.
On Day one of the Red Hawks lost to the Century Ducks 2023 Division 3 National Runner Up in a four game battle (16-25, 22-25, 25-20, 16-25). Jilly Bruckner was the offensive leader of the game with eight kills, .273 hitting percentage, an ace and six digs, while Kaylee McDaniel led the defense with 16 Digs, one assist and five aces.
The second match of day, the team took on South Western Illinois Community College. The Red Hawks were unable to stop the defense of the SWIC team and lost the match 0-3 ( 16-25, 23-25, and 16-25) The Red Hawks ended day one with a 0-2 record. Stat leaders for the match were Jillian Bruckner with seven kills, two aces, and four digs. Defensive leader of the match were Kaylee McDaniel with an ace, 12 digs and three assists.
The second day of the OWT tourney, the LMC Red Hawks faced the McHenry Scotts. The Red Hawks battled the first game winning 25-23 however, the McHenry team fought back with an efficient offense winning the next three games (25-16, 25-15 and 25-18). This would be the third loss for the team on the weekend. Offensive leader of the match was Taylor Butler with seven kills,.500 hitting percentage and four block assists. Leading in Defense was Jessica Hand with 10 digs and four assists.
In the final match of the weekend the team played the Waubonsee Chiefs. The Red Hawks swept the Chiefs 3-0 earning their first win of the weekend and giving them an overall record of 1-3 to start the season.
Offensive stat leader for the match was Mackenzie Ash with seven kills,.429 hitting percentage, a dig and two block assists. The defensive player of the match was Jessica Hand with 13 digs.
The Lady Red Hawks are back in action on Tuesday, August 27 versus Olivet University. On Wednesday, the team will head to Port Huron to play East side rivals St. Clair and Mott for a quad.
