Women Fall In Quaterfinals
The Lady Red Hawks traveled to St. Clair Community College in Port Huron, MI on November 3-5, 2022 to compete in the NJCAA Region XII District B Tournament and fell in the quarterfinals.
This was the first time in several years that the Lake Michigan College Volleyball team had earned this honor. On day one, the team swept Bay College in three (25-8, 25-17, 25-20). In the next round they met up with Muskegon. The Red Hawks fought hard to earn the win but fell short in a five game battle (18-25, 25-21, 15-25, 25-23, 15-17). On day two the team swept Edison State (25-19, 25-21, 26-24) to advance to the quarter finals. They then faced the Oakland Raiders a team that the Red Hawks had previously defeated 3-1 earlier in the season. Unfortunately this time the Raiders prevailed earning the win in 4 sets (24-26, 25-19, 25-16, 25-16). The team ended their season finishing fourth place in the tournament. Muskegon ended up winning the District B tournament while GRCC won the District A tournament punching their tickets to Nationals. Teagan Giannunzio earned a spot on the All-Tournament team and was also the Defensive player of the Tourney earning 87 digs, 17 assists, and four aces. Other defensive stand outs were Leiana Butler with 52 digs, five assists and two aces while Charity Dundas accumulated 45 digs, one kill, three assists and one ace. Olivia Deeb as the setter had 12 kills, 130 assists, two aces, 57 digs and four block assists. The offensive player of the weekend was Abi Nunez with 52 kills, four assists, two aces, 54 digs, and six block assists. Karissa Gest was second for kills in the front row with 29 kills, one assist, three aces, 18 digs, one solo block, and five assist blocks. Other contributors in the Front row were Hayleah McFadden with 9 kills, 13 digs and three block assists while Gabby Cuthbert 10 kills, one assist, two aces, one solo block and one assist block. In the middle Faith Lewis scored 30 kills, one assist, nine digs, four solo blocks, and nine block assists while Jermara Blackmon earned 23 Kills, nine digs, four solo blocks, and 15 assist blocks. The Lady Red Hawks played an incredible season ending up 29-13 overall and 10-2 in conference play. Go Red Hawks!
