Another Great Event For The Women
The team was on the road to compete against Southwestern Michigan Community College and North Central Community College on Saturday, August 27, 2022.
The first match of the day was against the SMC Roadrunners. The Red Hawks got off to a slow start in game one losing 16-25 to a well-prepared SMC team. The women made some adjustments to their defense, began playing more consistently, and put the pressure on with their aggressive serving. These things forced the Roadrunners out of system and provided the Red Hawks the opportunity to win the next three sets. Next up were the North Central Timber Wolves, where the women took the match in three straight sets 25-16, 25-19, 25-11. The team went 2-0 on the day and now has an overall record of 7-1.
Abi Nunez led the offense for the third straight event with 17 kills, six aces, 19 digs, and two solo blocks. Karissa Gest was in a close second with 15 kills, two aces, and 19 digs. Faith Lewis had a great day in the middle with 13 kills and two solo blocks. Jermara Blackmon also contributed with 9 kills, three aces, and three solo blocks. Olivia Debb was outstanding as our setter earning 53 assists, two aces, and 11 digs
On the day, Gabby Cuthbert also added to the team's offense with five kills, two assists, five digs and one solo block. Teagan Giannunzio had another outstanding event and was the defensive leader of the day with 31 digs, three kills, four assists, and three aces.
