Lake Michigan College showed resilience early, but couldn't withstand Jackson College's sustained pressure. The Red Hawks highlight came in the 15th minute when Vanessa Alcaraz confidently converted a penalty kick, cutting Jackson's early lead 2-1 and giving the Red Hawks momentum. Goalkeeper Gracie Pond kept LMC within striking distance throughout the first half, recording 12 saves before a late red card forced a change in net.
Despite being outshot, the Red Hawks battled through a physical match, matching Jackson with six fouls and generating six second-half shots, including three on frame from Alcaraz and Jillian McKean.
The Red Hawks will look to build on their defensive stretches, improved second-half attack, and return to play on September 10 versus Marian University Ancilla.
