Lady Red Hawks Defeat Lady Cougars In Home Opener

The Lady Red Hawks and the Lady Cougars were neck and neck the majority of the game. With 10:35 left in the first half McKenzie Ecker found an opening and connected to Maya Ortiz, who scored the first and only goal of the game. Ecker and Ortiz continued to control the midfield as they created more opportunities but could not break through the goal. Illinois Central continued to try and break down the backline of the field but the Lake Michigan stayed strong and did not allow them to penetrate. Goalie Victoria Smith had 16 saves on the day ensuring the shut out. Lizbeth Perez Negron Diaz had three shots on goal while Laisha Ramirez-Medrano had one. 

Head Coach Jeremy Woolery stated that "the women played really well today for our first game of the season and earned the result that we were looking for against a good Illinois Central team. We have a young group that has come together early in the season."

The women will host Delta College on Friday, August 30, 2019 at 4:00 pm.
