Lady Red Hawks opened their home conference opener with Lakeland Community College and ended the day with a 3-0 win.
The women were full of determination this morning as they faced the Lady Lakers. The Lady Red Hawks were able to put pressure on Lakeland as Zenah Farhan (FR/St. Joseph, MI) scored the first goal of the game within the first nine minutes of the first half. Both teams could not gain much advantage until Audrey Filippo (SO/St. Joseph, MI) found an opening and scored with six minutes left. Lake Michigan was not done yet as Lexy Gustafson (FR/St. Joseph, MI) scored the last goal of the half with 49 seconds left leaving the women up 3-0.
The second half was a constant midfield battle as neither team found a way to score. The Lady Red Hawks continued to hold their ground and ended with their first win of the season.
Olivia Moore (FR/Bangor, MI) did an amazing job in the goal with 7 saves. Gustafson not only scored a goal but also had two assists on the day. Anayda Lucio (FR/Dowagiac, MI) also assisted with the Gustafson goal. Samantha Eddie, Paige Harvey (SO/Comstock Park, MI), Yarazet Villegas (FR/Covert, MI) also were able to connect with the ball at the goal line but were contained.
The women will head to Ancilla College on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at 4:00 pm.
