Lake Michigan College Holds Off Late MATC Rally, Escapes with 62-60 Win
Lake Michigan College survived a furious fourth-quarter comeback from Milwaukee Area Technical College on Friday night, edging the Stormers 62-60 in a tense non-conference matchup.
The Red Hawks appeared firmly in control early, dominating the first quarter 22-9 behind efficient scoring from Miley Young and Olivia Howard. LMC carried a 35-20 lead into halftime and maintained a comfortable cushion through three quarters. But MATC stormed back with a 22-10 fourth quarter, capitalizing on turnovers and second-chance opportunities to nearly erase a 17-point deficit. LMC leaned on balanced scoring, with Young and Howard each delivering 16 points. Howard added 7 rebounds and went 5-of-6 at the line, while Young shot an efficient 7-of-11 with 5 assists. Danai Childs contributed 10 points off the bench. Despite being outrebounded 54-30, Lake Michigan countered with better efficiency from the field and at the arc, finishing 6-for-19 from three.
The Red Hawks return to action looking to clean up ball security after committing 21 fouls and 10 turnovers in the narrow victory.
