Muskegon jumped all over the Lady Red Hawks forcing them into turnovers and missed shots and the Lady Jayhawks took a commanding 30-8 lead after the first quarter. Muskegon outscored Lake Michigan 18-12 in the second quarter and to a commanding 48-20 lead at halftime. Both teams scored often in the third quarter, with Muskegon outscoring Lake Michigan 27-24 and in the final quarter Muskegon held a 16-14 advantage for the final 91-58 score.
For the game, Lake Michigan shot 36% while Muskegon made 46% of their shots attempted. Muskegon also out-rebounded the Lady Red Hawks 47-36 and forced Lake Michigan to commit 25 turnovers.
Three players were in double-figures for Lake Michigan, led by sophomore Aymia Flowers who had 17 points. Sophomores LaChelle Knox added 12 points and Delany Basker contributed 11 points. Knox also had 11 rebounds and both Knox and Flowers had three assists a piece.
After the game, Head Coach, Patrick Daniel stated "We were never in the game after being down so much after the first quarter. Right now it is very frustrating that we keep having terrible starts to games especially in these last three games. We cannot play from so far behind and if this does not get corrected fast we will never give ourselves a chance against very good teams in this conference."
The Lady Red Hawks (6-10, 1-4 in MCCAA Western Division) travel on the road this Wednesday, January 22, 2020 when they head to Ancilla College (6-6, 0-3 in MCCAA Western Division). Tip-off is set for 5:30 PM.
