Lake Michigan College Women’s Basketball led from start to finish and picked up a much needed win on the road defeating Milwaukee Area Technical College 74-66 on Friday night.

The Lady Red Hawks jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the first quarter and after the first 10 minutes, they led 16-8. In the second quarter, Lake Michigan extended their lead to 16 points (26-10) after starting the quarter on a 10-2 run. But the Lady Stormers fought back and outscored the Lady Red Hawks 23-13 in the final five minutes of the quarter and Lake Michigan held a six point lead (39-33) at halftime.

The third quarter saw the Lady Red Hawks come out of the locker room with a sluggish start and the Lady Stormers pulled within two points (39-37) in the first minute of the quarter. But Lake Michigan responded each time Milwaukee tried to tie or take the lead and the Lady Red Hawks would not let that happen.  The Lady Stormers did outscore Lake Michigan 14-10 in the third quarter and the Lady Red Hawks held a 49-47 lead going into the final quarter. In the fourth quarter, Lake Michigan started off with a quick 11-0 run in the first three minutes and extended their lead to 60-47. But again Milwaukee would not go away, and they cut the lead to five points (68-63) with two minutes left to play. The Lady Red Hawks finished the game by getting key defensive stops and making their free throws for the final 74-66 win.  Lake Michigan outscored Milwaukee 25-19 in the final quarter.

For the game, Lake Michigan shot 46% from the field including hitting 43% from behind the three point line. The Lady Red Hawks out-rebounded Milwaukee 50-32 and dished out a season high 21 assists and had eight blocks as a team.

Sophomore LaChelle Knox had a career first triple double with 13 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists.  Sophomore Morgan Hughes led the Lady Red Hawks in scoring with 19 points and sophomore Aymia Flowers added 18 points.  Sophomore Elasia Craig had 12 rebounds and a game-high seven blocks.

After the game, Head Coach, Patrick Daniel stated "Extremely proud of how these ladies played as a team tonight. This win was a total team effort and we needed it coming back from Thanksgiving Break. We made a lot of mistakes and did not take care of the basketball like we needed to, but these ladies never quit and they finished the game by coming together and finishing strong. We definitely need this type of team effort moving forward this season."

The Lady Red Hawks will return to the court next Friday, December 13, 2019 when they host Grace Christian University in their second home game of the season. Tip-off is at 5:30 PM.
