Lady Red Hawks Fall to Lady Cardinals

After the first quarter, the Lady Red Hawks held a one-point lead (13-12), which has been the case early this season, Lake Michigan has struggled to score points and get key stops when needed.  In the second quarter, the Lady Cardinals outscored Lake Michigan 17-10 to take a 29-23 lead into halftime.  Lake Michigan managed to outscore Andrews 15-13 in the third quarter and went into the final quarter trailing 42-38.  For much of the fourth quarter, the Lady Red Hawks stayed close and even trailed 57-54 with two minutes remaining in the game, but Lake Michigan did not score again and the Lady Cardinals closed the game on a 7-0 run in route to the 64-54 win.

Lake Michigan only shot 27% from the field while Andrews converted 32% of their filed goal attempts. The Lady Red Hawks were also outrebounded 47-40 by the Lady Cardinals and turned the ball over 19 times compared to 18 times for Andrews.

Two players were in double figures, led by sophomores, Morgan Hughes who had 19 points and LaChelle Knox who had 14 points.  Knox also had 14 rebounds and dished out four assists.  Freshman Joh'nae Poindexter had five steals and sophomore Elasia Craig had three blocks.

After the game, Head Coach, Patrick Daniel stated "Very disappointed in how we played tonight. We did not follow the game plan, shot terrible shots, and allowed Andrews to dominate us on the offensive boards. As a team, players and coaches we have to be better if we expect to compete and have a chance to win basketball games. It's early in the season, but how we are playing right now has to change."

The 1-2 Lady Red Hawks will be back in action on Saturday, November 16, 2019 when they travel to St. Clair County Community College (0-1). Game time is set for 1:00 PM.
