Lady Red Hawks Receive Accolades

The Lake Michigan College Women's Basketball team had three players and their head coach receive Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Western Conference and NJCAA Region XII District G awards that were announced on Monday, March 11, 2019.

Freshman, Jayla Bibbs was recognized for her outstanding play and was selected to the All MCCAA Team, All NJCAA Region XII Division II Team, MCCAA First Team All-Western Conference, MCCAA Western Conference All-Defensive Team, and MCCAA All-Freshman Team.  Bibbs also received the MCCAA Western Conference Freshman of the Year, and MCCAA Western Conference Player of the Year.  On the season, Bibbs has averaged the following per game; 16.6 points, 11.3 rebounds, 5.7 steals (lead NJCAA Division II), 3.9 assists, and 1.5 blocks.

Sophomore Samantha Jenkins was selected to the All MCCAA Team, All NJCAA Region XII Division II Team, MCCAA First Team All-Western Conference, and MCCAA Western Conference All-Defensive Team. On the season, Jenkins has averaged the following per game; 15.4 points, 41.2 % in three point field goals, 4.3 assists, and 3.2 steals.

Sophomore Monae Palmer was selected to the MCCAA Third Team All-Western Conference.  On the season, Palmer has averaged the following per game; 11.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 1.7 steals, and 1.1 blocks.

Head Coach Patrick Daniel received MCCAA Coach of the Year and MCCAA Western Conference Co-Coach of the Year.  The Lady Red Hawks currently have a 27-5 overall record and finished 16-2 in the MCCAA Western Conference giving them their first outright MCCAA Western Conference title since the 1996-97 season.  The Lady Red Hawks also won the 2018-19 MCCAA State Championship.  This was Lake Michigan's first MCCAA State Championship since the 2000-01 season.

Lake Michigan won the NJCAA Region XII District G Championship on Saturday, March 9.  Samantha Jenkins was named Tournament Most Valuable Player and Jayla Bibbs and Monae Palmer were both named to the All-Tournament team.  Coach Daniel received NJCAA Region XII District G Coach of the Year.

The Lady Red Hawks now advance to the NJCAA Division II Women's National Basketball Tournament being hosted by North Arkansas College held in Harrison, Arkansas.  Lake Michigan is the #11 seed and will face #6 seed Pima Community College (21-11) in their first round game on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at Noon (EST). This game will be live streamed on NJCAA TV (www.njcaatv.com). This is the Lady Red Hawks first appearance in the national tournament since 2016.
