The NJCAA weekly poll came out on Tuesday and the Lady Red Hawks received well deserved recognition. The women are currently tied for first place along with Muskegon Community College in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Western Conference. The women have a 15-2 conference record and a 23-5 overall record at this time.
It has been a whole team effort this season although two players have received other national recognition. Jayla Bibbs is ranked in the top 25 for rebounds, averaging 11.3 per game with an average of 6.1 steals. Samantha Jenkins is also ranked in the top 25 for hitting her shots outside of the perimeter shooting 41.8% and averaging 15.1 points per game. Lake Michigan is successful at the free throw line shooting 61% while averaging 72.4 points per game.
The Lady Red Hawks have clinched the NJCAA Region XII berth which will be held at Grand Rapids Community College. The women will first face Muskegon Community College on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at 5:30 pm for the sole first place spot in the MCCAA Western Conference. The winner of this game will head to Mott Community College on Saturday, March 2, 2019 for the State Championship with the game time being announced after Wednesday's conference play.
