The first game started off bleak for the Lady Red Hawks as Kalamazoo Valley scored three runs in the first inning. All bats fell quite in the second and it was Lake Michigan who pushed two across the plate in the third and in the fourth taking a 4-3 lead. The Lady Cougars answered back in the fourth scoring four more runs. The Lady Red Hawks did not back down as they tied the game in the top of the sixth 7-7. This did not last long as Kalamazoo Valley scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth as Lake Michigan fell 7-8.
Jaidyn Hutsell was on the mound and allowed seven hits, two walks, and struck out two batters. Anna Castelluccio lead the women with a home run and a double with an RBI. Hutsell also blasted a double and two singles with an RBI while Jordyn Swinehart had three RBI's due to her two singles. Kiarra Herson had two RBI's from her two singles as Jenna Walter, Brenna Madry, and Cassidy Zavoral all hit a single.
The second game started out in a battle as both teams scored a run in the first inning. The Lady Red Hawks answered back in the second scoring three runs and two in the third as they held the Lady Cougars from scoring. Both teams scored another run in the fourth but it was Kalamazoo Valley that went on a hitting streak in the fifth scoring five runs and tieing the game 7-7. The Lady Red Hawks then had their opportunity and jumped all over the ball scoring 11 runs in the top of the sixth inning. This nine run lead sealed the win as they were able to hold the Lady Cougars and took the 18-7 win.
Kiarra Herson obtained the win striking out three batters and allowing nine hits. It was a slug fest for the women as there were three home runs hit by the Lady Red Hawks. Jordyn Swinehart was one that hit a homer along with three singles with an RBI. Brenna Madry hit a bomb and two singles with three RBI's while Jenna Walter hit a home run, double, and single with an RBI. Herson was able to blast a triple and a single with three RBI's as Jaidyn Hutsell also had three RBI's from her double and single. Cassidy Zavoral was able to push two runs across the plate with her two singles while Tegan Bays and Anna Castelluccio both had two RBI's from their singles. Gabby Rothrock obtained an RBI with her single also.
The women will host Muskegon Community College on Thursday, April 3, 2019 with a 3:00 pm start.
