Lake Michigan hosted Lakeland Community College to start off their season and fell 3-8.
The Red Hawks came out strong against the Lakers as both teams competed up and down the field. The Lakers were first to score the first five goals with Laker Kobie Gooding-Meade obtaining a hat trick. This did not deter the Red Hawks as Joao Godinho (FR/Santa Catarina, Brazil) received a goal due to the Lakeland goalie aiding in the scored ball making it a 1-5 game. Gooding-Meade connected again scoring for Lakeland but Red Hawks Andrew Kangas (SO/St. Joseph, MI) executed a penalty kick ending the first half with a 2-6 score.
In the second half, the Lakers were able to push on past the goal line within the first five minutes. The game remained a battle until Red Hawks Tony Dennis (SO/Kalamazoo, MI) scored another goal for the men making the score 3-7. The men continued to put up the good fight but with 49 seconds left the Lakers found a way to score and the game ended in a 3-8 Lake Michigan loss.
Kangas attempted five shots on goal connecting with one as Mark Resendez (FR/Hartford, MI) fired off four shots. Tony Dennis connect three times with one being a goal as Ted Langat (SO/Nairobi, Kenya) and Godinho both attempted once.
The men will host Cuyahoga Community College on Sunday, August 25, 2018 at 1:00 pm.
