Red Hawks Surge in Second Half to Down KVCC, 96-87
Lake Michigan College exploded for 56 second-half points to rally past Kalamazoo Valley Community College 96-87 on Wednesday night.
The Red Hawks trailed 47-40 at halftime but flipped the momentum after the break, tightening up defensively and finding a rhythm offensively to outscore KVCC by nine over the final 20 minutes.
Caleb Gatewood led the charge with 29 points on an efficient 11-of-15 shooting performance, adding seven rebounds. Karlos Berry provided a spark with 22 points, four blocks, and three steals, while Javaughn Kuykendoll added 14 points off the bench.
LMC forced 23 turnovers and piled up 20 steals, turning defense into offense throughout the second half. Javon Swansey contributed seven steals and five assists to pace the defensive effort.
Kalamazoo Valley was led by Gerald Crawford's 22 points off the bench and Matt Swanwick's 20 points. Josiah King added 18 points and 13 rebounds in the loss.
The Red Hawks' defensive pressure and balanced scoring proved decisive as LMC protected its home floor with a key conference win.
