Lansing Community College Pulls Away Late to Defeat Lake Michigan College 108–98
Lake Michigan College dropped a high-scoring home contest Wednesday night, falling 108–98 to Lansing Community College despite a strong inside presence and balanced scoring effort.
The Red Hawks trailed 53–50 at halftime and remained within striking distance throughout the second half. However, Lansing’s efficient shooting proved to be the difference, as the Stars connected on an impressive 69.4 percent from the field.
Lake Michigan was led by Caleb Gatewood, who poured in 19 points on 7-of-8 shooting while adding six rebounds. Karlos Berry contributed 17 points, and Devon Shelton added 15 off the bench. Malik Raines chipped in 12 points and four rebounds, while Javaughn Kuykendoll scored 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting.
The Red Hawks controlled the glass with a 38–25 rebounding advantage, including 18 offensive boards, creating multiple second-chance opportunities. Lake Michigan also forced 11 turnovers and recorded 14 steals and four blocks defensively.
Lansing was paced by Zander Woodruff’s 31-point performance, while DeAndre Berry added 19 points off the bench and Jameer Autry contributed 14. The Stars capitalized at the free-throw line, converting 17-of-20 attempts, and shot nearly 70 percent overall to maintain their edge.
Lake Michigan shot 44.3 percent from the field but struggled from beyond the arc, hitting just 5-of-29 (17.2 percent) from three-point range.
The Red Hawks will look to regroup as they continue conference play.
