Men Win On The Road
For the second straight game, the Red Hawks held the lead for the entire 40 minutes of Wednesday night’s 79-61 victory against Kellogg Community College.
For the first time since the 2017-18 season, the Men's Basketball team put together back-to-back wins, a sign of significant improvement over the course of the 2021-22 season. The Red Hawks were missing three important players of their rotation, however, the rest of the roster stepped up. The stifling defense of the Red Hawks caused the Bruins to turn the ball over 18 times and capitalized by scoring 17 points off those turnovers. Lake Michigan scored 42 points in the paint while shooting 43.7% from the floor.
Brian Hunter Jr. led all scorers with 16 points and got his teammates involved, dropping off seven assists and playing outstanding defense. In his first career collegiate start, Abdoulaye Ba added 11 points to the offensive effort, while grabbing nine rebounds, six of them offensive rebounds, and played an enormous role on the defensive side of the ball. Micah Johnson and Clayton Roberts both chipped in with 11 points and stuffed the stat sheet in multiple areas while Nigel Johnson added 10 points. Dewey Shannon had another big game, scoring seven points, grabbing nine rebounds, added two steals and took a timely charge to keep momentum on the Red Hawks' side. Jadon Williams capped off a great night with eight points, nine rebounds and three steals.
The Red Hawks travel to Jackson, Michigan to take on the Jackson College Jets on January 22, 2022 at 3:00pm.
