Men Win First Home Conference Match-up
The Red Hawks hosted Mid-Michigan and took the 70-54 win.
On the night of January 12, 2022, the Red Hawks played their first game at home since December 10, 2021 and gave their fans quiet a show. In a match-up against the Lakers, the Red Hawks started off on a 12-0 run and held onto the lead throughout the remainder of the game.
The Lakers responded quickly, going on a 12-1 run, cutting the lead to one point with just under 10 minutes remaining in the first half. Both teams struggled to score in the remaining minutes, and the Red Hawks took a 23-20 lead into half-time. After some quick adjustments, the men came storming out of the locker room and took a commanding 43-30 lead by the thirteen-minute mark. In the second half, the Red Hawks out-scored the Lakers 47-34, giving them their first conference win (70-54).
Dewey Shannon had a remarkable game and filled the stat sheet with 13 points, 14 rebounds, nine assists and seven steals. Derrick Campbell led the Red Hawks in scoring with 15 points while adding six rebounds, six assists and three steals. Nigel Johnson added to the offensive effort, scoring 13 points. Brian Hunter Jr. and Micah Johnson both added eight points, while Jadon Williams bolstered the scoring effort with six points, grabbing five rebounds and providing outstanding defense.
"Tonight was the best all-around team effort we've had all season" Assistant Coach Jake Sall had to say about the game. "We were relentless on the defensive end, forcing 21 turnovers and held their guys in check. More important, we played together."
The men travel to Kellogg Community College on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 with a 7:30 pm tip-off.
