Men Are Back In Action
After going 616 days without competing due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the LMC Red Hawks Men’s Basketball team finally got back on the court.
Despite starting off the regular season 0-2, the men responded with their first win of the season, and their first in 728 days, less than 24 hours after playing the 17th ranked NJCAA Division II, Bryant & Stratton College.
Nigel Johnson, led the well-balanced scoring effort with 15 points, accompanied by Brian Hunter Jr., and JoCorian Freeman with 14 points apiece. Sophomore Dewey Shannon also added 12 points. Derrick Campbell and captain, Jadon Williams, provided a spark off the bench that helped the Red Hawks pull away in the second half.
Though the offense seemed to start firing on all cylinders, the Red Hawk defense held Alpena Community College to just 29 points in the second half of Saturday's game. "When we're bought in defensively, we're tough" Coach Rickey Hampton said about the squad. "We have guys that fly around and can make plays. When we are locked in and playing together as a unit, we're going to be tough to beat."
The Red Hawks have a much-needed week of rest after playing three games in four days. Their next opponent, Hope College's Junior Varsity program, travels to Lake Michigan College on Saturday, November 13th at 3:00pm.
