The Red Hawks got out to a quick start as Jonathan Bowman connected on a three from the corner to start the scoring. Despite struggles to keep the Lakers off the offensive glass, the Red Hawks were able to control the first ten minutes of action leading to a five-point lead. Mid Michigan continued to force the issue inside wearing down the Red Hawks and a late first half run allowed them to take over the lead and eventually head to half-time holding a 29-35 lead over the Red Hawks.
Lake Michigan came out with a surge to start the second half keeping the score close throughout the early minutes of the game. The Lakers stuck to their plan though, and as the second half continued, their ability to get the ball to the rim was too much for the Red Hawks. On the game, the Lakers were able to convert on 59% of their two-point opportunities and collected 10 offensive rebounds compared to the Red Hawks 38% and three offensive rebounds. This inside strength wore the Red Hawks down, who then surrendered to easy opportunities late in the game, as they struggled to scramble back defensively. A narrow six-point halftime lead ballooned in the final eight minutes as the Red Hawks fell 80-58.
Lake Michigan were led in scoring by Jordan Marble with 18 points. Jamon Walker added 14 points, three rebounds, and four assists. Andrew McGuirt contributed 11 points, two rebounds, and three assists. The loss moves the Red Hawks to 0-3 in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association Western Conference. Their next game is on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at Kellogg Community College with a 7:30 tip-off.
