Men Lose In Conference Opener On The Road

The Lake Michigan College Red Hawks got off to a slow start in their first conference game of the season at Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC). Devan Nichols connected on an early three pointer and then the Raiders scored the next 18 straight points. The Red Hawks were able to fight back with a run of their own. Nichols caught an alley-oop as time ran out to finish the half, sending the teams into halftime with the Red Hawks trailing by two (31-29).

The Raiders once again controlled the beginning of a half and were able to quickly stretch their lead back to double figures. In a similar fashion to the first half, the Red Hawks came back fighting. Andrew McGuirt led the charge, scoring multiple times at the rim and connecting on six of six from the free throw line. The dedication to scoring inside took the Red Hawks to a lead mid-way through the half (48-49). The Raiders followed with another run, and this time the Red Hawks had run out of comebacks, leading to the 72-66 final.

The Red Hawks were led by McGuirt's 20 points while Nichols added 17 points and six rebounds. Jordan Marble added 16 points and six rebounds. The Red Hawks next game is Wednesday January 8, 2020 as they host Glen Oaks Community College for a scheduled 7:30 pm tip.
