Red Hawks Run Out Of Steam Late
Lake Michigan hosted Lansing Community College on Thursday, January 24, 2019 and fell 75-88.
The Red Hawks and Stars traded baskets early on in the game in a fast pace race. Justin Henderson started things for the Red Hawks with a stop on the defensive end, a powerful finish at the rim, and a determined defensive rebound. From there the Red Hawks guards took the leading role, scoring seven straight points. Henderson wasn't done though, as he collected a big blocked shot leading to a transition opportunity where Sheddrick Porter was able to find Henderson underneath for a finish and an 11-7 lead.
The Stars were able to fight back with some of their own interior strength as they gathered eight offensive rebounds in the opening half. Lansing was rewarded with rebounds and free throw opportunities off of Red Hawk fouls. Lake Michigan also created some of their own troubles by turning the ball over, creating easy opportunities for the explosive Stars offense, which ended the first half with the Red Hawks trailing 44-40.
The second half saw even more back and forth action starting with Jaguar Jackson tieing the game at 71 with just over nine minutes left to play. The scored remained tied at 71 over the next three minutes as both offenses went cold. Lansing found themselves opportunities and took a four point lead. The Red Hawks never recovered and the Stars stretched their lead as the time wound down. The Stars dominance on the boards, a 52-37 advantage on the night, and their bench who added 23 points on the night were two of the major factors in them defeating the Red Hawks 88-75.
The Red Hawks were led by Porter with 20 points, 4 assists, and 3 rebounds, Khaire Williams added 18 points, Henderson tallied 10 points and 8 rebounds, and Adrien Bucha-Moore chipped in 9 points, 3 assists, and 6 rebounds.
The Red Hawks travel to Glen Oaks Community College on Saturday, January, 26, 2019 for a 3:00 pm start.
