Red Hawks Second Half Struggles Prove Costly
The Lake Michigan College Red Hawks traveled to Jackson College for a conference matchup on Wednesday night and fell 83-69.
A quick start gave the Red Hawks an early 12 point advantage. Jackson responded well, picking up their pressure leading to turnovers and difficult finishes for the men. As the first half progressed, the Jets whittled away the lead, eventually taking the advantage late in the first half. Sheddrick Porter gave the Red Hawks the lead heading in to half time though, connecting on a pull up jump shot with only two seconds to play in the half.
The Jets continued to mix defenses, started to connect on more outside shots, and chased down offensive rebounds for second chance points in the second half. The Red Hawks continued their fight though, keeping the score within eight through the first ten minutes of the second half. As the game wound to a close, it was the Red Hawks inability to connect on shots, shooting only 26% from the field and 19% from three-point range in the second half that allowed Jackson to pull away to a 69-83 final.
The Red Hawks were led in scoring by Porter who had 21, Khaire Williams added 19, and Austin Dukesherer tallied 8 points.
The Red Hawks travel to Grand Rapids, Michigan to take on GRCC on Friday, January, 18, 2019 for a 7:30 PM start.
