The Lake Michigan College Red Hawks got off to a strong start in their Saturday match up with the Bruins. Khiare Williams started the game with a strong drive and finish at the rim. More aggressive attacks led to the Red Hawks holding an early 17-8 advantage and forcing the Bruins to a timeout looking to change the momentum of the game. The Bruins managed to do so, aided by some strong three point shooting, the Bruins were able to fight back and take a 36-28 lead in to the half.
The Bruins came out to start the second half in much the way they ended the first. Consistent shooting and offensive rebound and put backs allowed them to stretch their lead to as many as 22. The Red Hawks refused to go away though. As they picked up defensive pressure they were able to bring the game back within six in the closing moments. Jonathan Bowman's two three-pointers and Sheddrick Porter's drives to the rim were instrumental in the Red Hawks push. Unfortunately for the Red Hawks, the margin loomed too large to come all the way back from, and the Bruins held on for a 92-82 victory.
Porter led the Red Hawks with 22 points and Williams had 20. Justin Henderson added 14 and Bowman put in 11.
The Red Hawks return to action on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 as they host Kalamazoo Valley Community College in their first home conference game with a 7:30 tip off.
