The men traveled to Glen Oaks Community College this evening and came home with a 90-69 win putting them in 2nd place in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Western Conference. They are now 6-1 in conference and 10-8 overall.
After a slow start, only scoring nine points in the first ten minutes and being down by four, the men picked up their pace. Before the half was over the Red Hawks went in to the half up 45-26. Three point shots,as seven players scored from behind the perimeter, and transition offense were major keys.
The second half came out with a faster pace and with under seven minutes the Vikings had cut the score to six. The Red Hawks found their groove and they were able to spark a 22 to 7 run to close out the game. The run started with a drive to the lane by James Smith (SO/Chicago, IL) who kicked out to Adam Nicks (SO/Indianapolis, IN) for the three. Later Bryce Saxton (SO/Cassopolis, MI) came up with a loose ball in traffic and in one spinning motion led Smith straight to the rim, with a behind the back pass, ending in an emphatic dunk. The next possession saw a long rebound fall to Malik Hall (SO/Benton Harbor, MI) who took it coast to coast and finished with an explosive dunk as well. The momentum stayed with the Red Hawks for the remainder of the game as they sealed the 90-69 win.
Smith led the Red Hawks in scoring with 22, Malik Hall recorded another double-double finishing with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Austin Dukesherer (FR/Grandville, MI), Ajani Parker (FR/Aurora, IL ), and Bryce Saxton all had 10 points.
