Red Hawks Blast Past Cornerstone JV
The men traveled to Cornerstone on Tuesday and it was a slug fest for the Red Hawks defeating the Golden Eagles twice.
In the first game, Lake Michigan came out swinging scoring two in the first, four in the second, five in the third, two in the fourth, and one in the fifth inning. Cornerstone was able to push one across in the bottom of the fourth. The teams decided to continue the game to get all players more playing time and the Red Hawks pushed three more runs in the top of the sixth. They ended the game winning 17-1 in seven innings. Ethan Payment hit a triple and a single with two RBI's. Kyle Ratliff had three hits including a triple and two singles, Jarrett DeLand hit a triple and a double, while Caleb Schmitt hit a triple with two RBI's. Roman Kuntz, Cameron Dalrymple, Michael Sibbersen, and Andy Klavins also hit doubles. Lane Martinek took the win for the Red Hawks striking out eight, walking one, and allowing one earned run.
The second game was much like the first. The men scored six runs in the first and due to errors scored sixteen runs in the second inning. The Golden Eagles scored one run in the second and fourth. Lake Michigan took the second game 34-2 in five innings. Hunter Bedell hit a home run with three RBI's. Kyle Veersma hit a triple and two doubles with six RBI's. Michael Sibbersen, Roman Kuntz, Lance MacDonald, Dawson Shearer, and Jacob Mahoney also hit doubles. Isiah Lindsey was the winning pitcher for the men.
Lake Michigan will host Grand Rapids Community College on Friday, March 2, 2021 at 2:00 pm for a conference double header. Due to fan limitations the game will be streamed via YouTube.
