Another Sweep For The Red Hawks
This past weekend the Red Hawks traveled to Siena Heights JV and then to Fort Wayne, Indiana to play Ivy Tech Community College Northeast and Indiana Technological Institute JV.
On Friday, the men traveled to Siena Heights for a double header. The Red Hawks came out on all cylinders in the first game scoring four runs in the first and second innings. Siena battled back scoring two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Lake Michigan answered back scoring three runs in the third and two runs in the fifth and ended the game with the 13-2 win. Roman Kuntz led the men with four hits including a double and three RBI's. Kyle Ratliff had three hits and two RBI's while Andy Klavins had two hits with a double and four RBI's. Jarrett DeLand blasted a triple and also had a single. Jonah Sibley won the game on the mound only allowing two hits, two walks, and struck out eight. William Roberts closed the game with only allowing one hit, one walk, and six strike outs.
In the second game, the Red Hawks were the first to score and again only allowed the Huskies to score two runs. The men won the game 10-2, scoring one run in the 2nd, four in the third, three in the fifth, and two in the seventh. Kyle Ratliff hit a triple with an RBI along with Owen Benson who had three RBI's and another single. Roman Kuntz hit two singles with a RBI. Andy Klavins, Hunter Bedell, Jaxon Gines, and Kyle Veersma all hit singles for the men. Marshall Leishman took the win for the men with only allowing one hit, one run, and five strike outs.
Lake Michigan then traveled to Fort Wayne, Indiana on Sunday to pick up two more games. In their first game, they defeated Ivy Tech 12-7. It was a tied ball game at four a piece entering into the third inning, which left both teams scoreless. The Red Hawks then pushed two across in the first and one in the fifth. Siena did not back down and scored three more in the bottom of the sixth. In the seventh, Lake Michigan opened up on the Huskies scoring five more runs. Cameron Dalrymple led the men with three hits, one being a triple, and two RBI's. Michael Sibberson also hit a triple with three RBI's. Roman Kuntz hit a double and a single with three RBI's while Caleb Schmitt hit a double. Jack Westerhoff won the game for the men with six hits, three walks, and five strikeouts. Dylan Matheny entered the game and had one hit, one run, and one strike out.
In the second game, the men faced off against Indiana Technological Institute JV. The Warriors scored first in the first inning and then didn't score another run until the seventh. Lake Michigan was able to push one run over in the second and third, three in the fifth, and one in the seventh winning 6-2. Roman Kuntz lead the men offensively with three hits, including a double and two RBI's. Ethan Payment also had double with two RBI's. Several Red Hawks had singles which included Jarrett Deland, Andy Klavins, Lance MacDonald, Cameron Dalrymple, and Kyle Ratliff. Payton Carney was the winning pitcher allowing three walks and one run.
The men travel to Kellogg Community College on Thursday, March 25, 2021 for a 1:00 pm start.
