Lake Michigan hosted Grand Rapids Community College and ended up in a split. The men lost the first game 0-4 and won the second game 2-0.
The men started out slow as the Raiders scored two runs in the first inning. Grand Rapids then scored one in the second and another in the third making the game 4-0 as Lake Michigan could not push a run across the plate. The Red Hawks defense held the Raiders at four runs for the remainder of the game even though they had scoring opportunities.
Howie Ewing (SO/Ottawa Lake, MI) pitched the full game allowing nine hits, four earned runs, but was able to strike out seven batters.
Ryan Remus (FR/Stevensville, MI) led the men offensively with two singles. Damion Pompey (SO/Cassopolis, MI), Chad Adkerson (FR/Buchanan, MI), Danny Mahoney (FR/Toronto, ON), Marcus Bradford (FR/St.Joseph, MI), and Brant Rago (FR/Berrien Springs, MI) all had singles.
The second game was a battle as both teams were scoreless for the first three innings. The Red Hawks woke up their bats in the fourth and they were able to string along two runs. The tenacity on the mound and the strong defensive play by the men held the Raiders from scoring, which led to the 2-0 Lake Michigan win.
It was a two man shut out as Zachary Banks (FR/St. Thomas, ON) began the game and obtained the win. He threw for five innings and only allowed three hits with nine strike outs. Dalton Riddle (FR/Buchanan, MI) came in for relief and pitched the last two innings and allowed two hits with two strike outs.
Riddle went two for three with a single and a double. Chad Adkerson had a double during this game as Ryan Remus and Marcus Bradford hit singles with RBI's. Cole Searles (FR/Niles, MI) and Brant Rago also hit singles respectively.
The men will travel to Grand Rapids Community College on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 for a double header at 2:00 pm.
