Baseball Drops Two Against The Cougars

The Red Hawks hosted Kalamazoo Valley Community College and fell 0-17 in six innings in the first game and 1-5 in the second game.

The game started off strong for both teams as it was a scoreless first inning. The Cougars were able to score in the top of the second and held the Red Hawks at bay. The wheels began to fall off for the men in the third inning as Kalamazoo Valley scored seven more runs. Lake Michigan College still remained scoreless but did not allow the Cougars to score again until the sixth inning. Kalamazoo Valley began another rally and scored nine more runs due to errors and luck in the top of the sixth inning. Lake Michigan could not muster a run and fell 0-17 in six innings.

Brant Rago (FR/Berrien Springs, MI) started off on the mound for the men and allowed six hits, had three strike outs, and only allowed three earned runs out of the 10 scored against him. Nicholas Frodl (FR/Cedar Springs, MI) came in for relief and gave up seven earned runs allowing five hits. Zachary Grishaber closed the game and did not allow a single run.

Dalton Riddle (FR/Buchanan, MI) and Marcus Bradford (FR/St.Joseph, MI) were the only two Red Hawks that hit singles during the first game.

The second began a lot like the first as it was a scoreless first inning. The Cougars were able to score two runs in the second but the Red Hawks answered back scoring a run in the bottom of the inning making it a 1-2 game. Kalamazoo Valley was then able to score another run in the third, sixth, and seventh innings as Lake Michigan could not find a way to score another run and fell 1-5.

Hunter Nagle (SO/Ottawa Lake, MI) started the game for the men and allowed three earned runs and five hits in the five innings that he pitched. Marcus Bradford entered in the sixth and struck out two batters, gave up three hits, and two earned runs.

Ryan Remus (FR/Stevensville, MI) hit three singles for the men as Dalton Riddle blasted another homerun with an RBI. Damion Pompey (SO/Cassopolis, MI), Chad Adkerson (FR/Buchanan, MI), and Daniel Mahoney all had singles.

The men will travel to Kalamazoo Valley Community College on Saturday, March 31, 2018 for a double header beginning at 1:00 pm.
