The Red Hawks traveled to Vincennes University and participated in their tournament where they faced the Trailblazers and Elgin Community College.
Their first game on Friday night was against Vincennes University and the men fell 5-13 even though they out hit the Trailblazers nine to six. Errors plagued the men which allowed Vincennes to score their 13 runs.
Zachary Banks (FR/St. Thomas, ON) took to the mound for three innings and allowed four runs, three of which were earned, and struck out one batter. Kyle Liddle (FR/Saranac, MI) threw for relief for one and a third innings and allowed two runs while Zach Grishaber (SO/Niles, MI) also came in and allowed two runs. Nicholas Frodl (FR/Cedar Springs, MI) enter into the game for relief for two thirds of an inning where five runs scored, all of which were unearned. Ryan Remus (FR/Stevensville, MI) then came in and was able to get out of the inning unscathed.
Damion Pompey (SO/Cassopolis, MI) and Brady Duval (FR/Niles, MI) both hit home runs while Cole Searles (FR/Niles, MI) hit a double with two RBI's.
The second game of the weekend was against Elgin Community College and the Red Hawks and fell 0-10 in six innings. The Spartans started their lead early scoring two in the first inning. The Red Hawks held Elgin in the second and third innings but the Spartans came back in the fourth scoring three in the fourth, two in the fifth, and three in the sixth ending the game.
Howie Ewing (SO/Ottawa Lake, MI) started the game and allowed five runs, with only two runs earned. Marcus Bradford (FR/St.Joseph, MI) came in for relief and allowed five earned runs.
Chad Adkerson (FR/Buchanan, MI) led the men with a double and a single while Damion Pompey and Zachary Banks both had singles.
In the third game, the men faced the Trailblazers for the last time and fell 7-14. Lake Michigan came out on fire in the first inning scoring four of their seven runs. They were able to score one in the fourth and two in the seventh but it was not enough to catch up to Vincennes.
Hunter Nagle (SO/Ottawa Lake, MI) held Vincennes from scoring for three full innings but the wheels began to fall off for the men in the fourth as the Trailblazers scored three runs. Tyler Roberts (FR/Barrie,ON) entered the game and three runs scored in the fifth which brought another change for the men. Dalton Riddle (FR/Buchanan, MI) came in to relieve and Vincennes kept their streak going as they scored six more runs in the same inning which brought on another Lake Michigan pitching change. Zachary Grishaber came to the mound and the Trailblazers were able to score two more runs. Ryan Remus finished out the game and did not allow any runs.
Cole Searles led the men with two singles and two RBI's as Marcus Bradford also had two singles and one RBI. Dalton Riddle and Daniel Mahoney both had singles with RBI's while Damion Pompey hit two singles.
The final game of the weekend was against Elgin, and the men fell 5-13. It was a scoreless first inning for both teams but in the second inning the Spartans were able to push four across the plate. The Red Hawks did answer back but was only able to score one run. In the third inning, Elgin dominated scoring six runs and did not allow Lake Michigan to score. In the fourth inning, it was the Red Hawks that put a run on the board and both teams scored three each in the fifth inning. Neither team scored the rest of the game and due to the early runs scored by the Spartans the men fell 5-13.
Brant Rago (FR/Berrien Springs, MI) started the game and pitched three innings and allowed 10 runs, where 9 were earned, and had four strike outs. Cole Searles came in for relief and did not let any one score. Brady Reynolds (FR/Centreville, MI) then came into the game and allowed three runs all of which were earned. Nicolas Foote (FR/Dowagiac, MI) came to close out the game and did not allow any runs.
Zachary Banks hit a double for the Red Hawks while Marcus Bradford hit a single with two RBI's. Kyle Liddle hit a single with an RBI while Daniel Mahoney obtained an RBI as well. Damion Pompey and Cole Searles both had two singles as Nicholas Foote also hit a single.
The men will host Lansing Community College on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at 2:00 pm.
