After the double header at South Georgia State College yesterday, the men traveled to Barnesville, Georgia to play Gordon State College in a double header. The first game the men fell 0-18 in five innings and 2-3 in seven innings.
Zach Banks took the mound in the in the first game for two and a third innings as the Highlanders were ready to play. Georgia State scored fourteen of their runs in the first few innings. This prompted the Red Hawks to put Ryan Remus (FR/Stevensville, MI) on the mound for some relief. The Highlanders continued to be relentless as they scored four more runs to end the game in the fifth inning. Lake Michigan could not produce a run and they fell 0-18 in five innings.
Dalton Riddle (FR/Buchanan, MI) was the lone Red Hawk that obtained a single off of the Highlanders.
Lake Michigan started off slow offensively but it was the strong pitching of Brant Rago (FR/Berrien Springs, MI) with his defense behind him that kept them in the game. Georgia State scored a run in the first inning. The Red Hawks were able to wake up their bats in the third scoring a run and tieing the game for a short time as the Highlanders answered back in the same inning. The fourth inning was scoreless by both teams. In the fifth inning, Dalton Riddle was brought in for relief and Georgia State was able to score another run. Riddle kept the Highlanders quite the rest of the game and the Red Hawks pushed one more run across the plate in the top of the seventh making the score 2-3.
Damion Pompey (SO/Cassopolis, MI) stepped up for the Red Hawks with his first double of the season and an RBI. Ryan Remus, Chad Adkerson (FR/Buchanan, MI), and Riddle also all had singles during this game. Zach Grishaber (SO/Niles, MI) had the second RBI via a fielder's choice.
The men will head back to Georgia State tomorrow, Monday, March 5, 2018 for a double header that will begin at 1:00 pm.
