Lady Red Hawks Faced Strong Competition at the Raider Invitational

The Lady Red Hawks traveled to participate in the Grand Rapids Community College Raider Invitational and went 0-4 on the weekend.

The women first faced Macomb Community College and competed but fell 23-25 in the first set. The women struggled in the second set losing 14-25. The tried to rally back in the third set but fell 23-25.

The second match up the day was against St. Clair County Community College and the women battled but lost 23-25. They came back in the second set but could not close the gap and fell 21-25. The third set was another battle but it ended with a 23-25 Lake Michigan loss.

The third match-up for the weekend was against Cuyahoga Community College. The women lost 21-25 in the first set. The Lady Red Hawks won the second set 25-19. In the third set, the women fell 21-25 and 20-25 in the fourth set.

The final game of the weekend was against Mott Community College. Lake Michigan struggled in the first set and fell 17-25. The second set was like the first as the women lost 16-25. They gained momentum in the third set but could not finish and ended the set with a 22-25 loss.

Top offensive players were McKenzie Smith (FR/Caro, MI) with 32 kills followed by Isabella Vaz (SO/Berrien Springs, MI) with 30 kills. Alexandra Polishchuk (FR/Berrien Springs, MI) had 19 kills along with Brianna Conklin (FR/Paw Paw, MI) while Katie Gates (SO/Stevensville, MI) had 14 kills and 5 solo blocks on the weekend. Emma Ruppel (FR/Berrien Springs, MI) had 95 assists while Taylor Strauss (SO/Buchanan, MI) had 89 digs and Kenzie Pulliam (FR/Niles, MI) had 25 digs.

The women will host Lansing Community College on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at 6:30 pm.
