Competitive Night Left The Lady Red Hawks In Defeat

Lady Red Hawks traveled to Kalamazoo Valley Community College and took them into five sets but ended up losing the match in five sets.

The night began slow for the Lady Red Hawks as they fell in the first set 14-25. Lake Michigan came to compete in the second set and defeated the Lady Cougars 25-16. The third set looked a lot like the first with the women falling 15-25. The Lady Red Hawks gained back their zest in a back and forth battle in the fourth set winning 25-22, which led them into the 5th and final set. It was another back and forth game but the Lady Cougars were able to take the lead and defeated Lake Michigan 15-10.

Isabella Vaz (SO/Berrien Springs, MI) led the women with 11 kills, 1 assist, 11 digs, and 3 solo blocks. McKenzie Smith (FR/Caro, MI) held the her own at the net with 12 kills and she also had 2 assists, 1 ace, and 12 digs. Katie Gates (SO/Stevensville, MI) had 4 kills, 1 assist, 3 digs, and 4 solo blocks while Kenzie Pulliam (FR/Niles, MI) had 4 kills, 1 ace, and 9 digs. Taylor Strauss (SO/Buchanan, MI) was a beast in the back row with 15 digs and 4 aces. Emma Ruppel (FR/Berrien Springs, MI) led in assists with 30 and also had 2 kills, and 1 ace. Brianna Conklin (FR/Paw Paw, MI) had 3 kills and 1 assist while Alexandra Polishchuk (FR/Berrien Springs, MI) had 2 kills, 2 aces, 1 solo block, and 1 dig.

The women will head to the Grand Rapids Raider Invitational on Saturday, September 29, 2018 with their first game at noon versus Macomb Community College. The tournament will be held at Northview High School in Grand Rapids.
