Defensive Downfall Led To Lady Red Hawks Loss

Lake Michigan traveled to Grace Christian University for a non-conference match and fell in five sets.

The women started the first set competing with the Lady Tigers but could not gain a lead as they fell 23-25. The Lady Red Hawks dominated the next two sets winning 25-21 and 25-20. The defense began to become inconsistent as the women fell in the third set 15-25 and lost in the final set 8-15.

Isabella Vaz (SO/Berrien Springs, MI) lead the women offensively with 13 kills, 3 aces, and came through defensively with 13 digs. Katie Gates (SO/Stevensville, MI) had 8 kills on the night with 2 blocks as McKenzie Smith (FR/Caro, MI) had 8 kills, 3 aces, and 10 digs. Emma Ruppel (FR/Berrien Springs, MI) and Brianna Conklin (FR/Paw Paw, MI) both had 7 kills. Ruppel also obtained 34 assists, 3 aces, and 10 digs on the night. Alexandra Polishchuk (FR/Berrien Springs, MI) swung hard and had 5 kills with 3 digs. Taylor Strauss (SO/Buchanan, MI) was strong defensively with 20 digs while Kenzie Pulliam (FR/Niles, MI) had 9 digs.

The women will travel to Bethel College on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at 5:00 pm.
