Lake Michigan hosted National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) ranked Muskegon Community College and fell in three sets.
The Lady Red Hawks had a difficult time defending their home court against the strong Muskegon offense. The Lady Jayhawks were able to jump out and score five points in the beginning of the first set. Lake Michigan could not find enough openings to gain momentum and fell 14-25. The second set was a lot like the first, as the women fell 14-25. In the third set, the Lady Red Hawks began to gain some ground until they reached the 14th point. This is when Muskegon was able to pull away with the win, but not before the Lady Red Hawks pulled off two more points, losing 16-25.
Taylor Strauss (SO/Buchanan, MI) was a defensive standout with 16 digs and 1 ace as Emma Ruppel (FR/Berrien Springs, MI) had 5 digs and 16 assists. On the offense, Brianna Conklin (FR/Paw Paw, MI) had 5 kills and a solo block while McKenzie Smith (FR/Caro, MI) had 5 kills and 3 aces. Alexandra Polishchuk (FR/Berrien Springs, MI) had 4 kills while Isabella Vaz (SO/Berrien Springs, MI) had 4 kills and 5 digs. Katie Gates (SO/Stevensville, MI) had 2 kills and a solo block and Kenzie Pulliam (FR/Niles, MI) held her own defensively with 5 digs.
The women will head to Grace Bible College on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at 6:30 pm.
