The Lady Red Hawks hosted nationally ranked Grand Rapids Community College and fell in three sets.
Although the night ended in a loss, the Lady Red Hawks never gave up the fight as they kept the scores of all three sets close. In the first set, it was a back and forth rally but the Lady Raiders made a run in the second rotation that Lake Michigan could not catch up to and they fell 19-25. In the second set, the Lady Red Hawks gained ground and it looked promising. Grand Rapids was able to take advantage of some openings that the Lake Michigan had and the women fell 23-25. The third set was much like the second, as the women volleyed throughout until the last few points of the game where the Lady Raiders pushed for the win and the Lady Red Hawks fell 21-25.
McKenzie Smith (FR/Caro, MI) stepped up for the women with 8 kills. Isabella Vaz (SO/Berrien Springs, MI) produced 4 kills and 10 points along with aiding the women defensively in the back row. Brianna Conklin (FR/Paw Paw, MI) and Katie Gates (SO/Stevensville, MI) scored three points each on kills as Kenzie Pulliam (FR/Niles, MI) had 2 kills. Emma Ruppel (FR/Berrien Springs, MI) had seven points and worked the court offensively.
The women will travel to Glen Oaks Community College on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at 6:30 pm.
