The Lady Red Hawks traveled to Bethel this morning to compete against the Lady Pilots and Ancilla College.
The women began the day competing against the Lady Chargers and came out strong as they won the first set 25-14. They then continued their success in the second set defeating Ancilla 25-16. The Lady Chargers took advantage in the third set winning 25-21. In the fourth set, it was the Lady Red Hawks that reset and defeated Ancilla 25-19.
The second match up the day for the women was against Bethel College. Lake Michigan honed in on their strengths and defeated the Lady Pilots in three sets winning 25-22, 25-20, and 25-21. Emma Ruppel (FR/Berrien Springs, MI) was a key player in this match up as she set consistently and effectively.
Katie Gates (SO/Stevensville, MI) was a force to be reckoned with on the net both offensively and defensively. Isabella Vaz (SO/Berrien Springs, MI) swung consistently on the day and her speed and ability to adjust in the back row earned the women several points. Taylor Strauss (SO/Buchanan, MI) was aggressive on serve receive and covered a lot of ground defensively for the Lady Red Hawks while Brianna Conklin (FR/Paw Paw, MI) also stepped up blocking at the net and served up some major heat to their opponents. Alexandra Polishchuk (FR/Berrien Springs, MI) also earned big points at important times in the sets to aid in the wins. Kenzie Pulliam (FR/Niles, MI)'s volleyball IQ and court awareness was effective and allowed her to make great choices which scored points for the women. Tahya Briggs (FR/Newaygo, MI) was a utility player today that was able to step into multiple positions productively as McKenzie Smith (FR/Caro, MI) adapted well in the back row and earned some point on great kills.
