Lady Red Hawks End On A Good Note

The Lady Red Hawks traveled to Waubonsee Community College for the weekend to participate in their invitational and came home with 2-2 record.

The first day for the women was a trying one as they lost to Sandburg Community College in three sets (19,17,19- 25,25,25). They then faced Rock Valley and competed but fell in four sets. (14,26,22,17-25,24,25,25)

After a nights rest, the women were in full force defeating Sauk Valley in three sets. (25,25,25 - 19,17,19) The women were not done yet as the faced a more competitive College of DuPage team but still won in four sets. (26,27,21,25 - 24,25,25,20)

Taylor Strauss (SO/Buchanan, MI) and Kenzie Pulliam (FR/Niles, MI) were key defensive players this weekend. Isabella Vaz (SO/Berrien Springs, MI), McKenzie Smith (FR/Caro, MI), Brianna Conklin (FR/Paw Paw, MI), and Katie Gates (SO/Stevensville, MI) were venomous attackers on the net while Emma Ruppel (FR/Berrien Springs, MI) earned 100 assists.

Smith had 40 kills, 22 digs, 6 aces, and 2 blocks as Vaz had 38 kills and 39 digs. Conklin followed with 23 kills, 6 aces, 10 digs, and 7 blocks while Gates obtained 14 kills, 5 blocks, and 3 aces. Strauss had 47 digs, 14 assists and 7 kills as Alexandra Polishchuk (FR/Berrien Springs, MI) had 12 kills. Pulliam ended the weekend with 9 kills, 10 aces, and 29 digs. Overall it was a successful weekend and a great team effort.

The women will host Kalamazoo Valley on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at 6:30 pm.
