The Lady Red Hawks season opener at Jackson College began with a bang as they won in three sets.
The women came out ready to make a statement and won the first set 25-14. They then kept up their momentum and defeated the Lady Jets in the second set 25-17. In the third set, Lake Michigan answered again winning 25-19 even though Jackson began to string more points together. The Lady Red Hawks played consistenty and the defense was strong allowing them to dominate the court.
Emma Ruppel (FR/Berrien Springs, MI) was a stand out with 22 assists, 2 aces, and 9 digs while McKenzie Smith (FR/Caro, MI) had 13 kills and 9 digs. Katie Gates (SO/Stevensville, MI) stood strong at the net with 6 blocks and 4 kills, as Kenzie Pulliam (FR/Niles, MI) had 5 kills, 1 ace, and 7 digs. Isabella Vaz (SO/Berrien Springs, MI) also had 7 kills, with 4 digs and Taylor Strauss (SO/Buchanan, MI) had 1 ace and 15 digs.
The women will travel to the Waubonsee Invitational on Friday, August 24, 2018 and will face Rock Valley Community College in their first round.
