Women's Soccer Falls To Oakton In Home Opener

The women's soccer team hosted Oakton Community College for their home opener and fell 2-5.

The game started off strong as Lexy Gustafson (FR/St. Joseph, MI) scored the first goal in the first few minutes of the game taking the 1-0 lead. The women remained strong for the next ten minutes until Lady Owl Gracie Harper scored tying the game. The next goal was scored by Oakton player Caitlin Dalton, via a penalty kick, putting them up 2-1 against the Lady Red Hawks, which ended the first half.

In the second half, Lake Michigan lost some tempo and the Lady Owls took advantage and scored two goals within minutes of each other. Then Oakton player, Hanna Shekari, scored the fifth and final goal for the Owls. The Lady Red Hawks did not give up the fight as Savannah Eddie (FR/Stevensville, MI) took advantage of a penalty kick. The teams continued the rest of the game scoreless and Lake Michigan ended the night with the 2-5 loss.

Savannah Eddie, Lexy Gustafson, and Zenah Farhan (FR/St. Joseph, MI) all had three shots on goal as Paige Harvey (SO/Comstock Park, MI), Anayda Lucio (FR/Dowagiac, MI), and Audrey Filippo (SO/St. Joseph, MI) all were able to get one shot off a piece. Olivia Moore (FR/Bangor, MI) protected the goal allowing five goals scored with five saves.

The women will host Lakeland Community College on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 11:00 am on the Benton Harbor campus.
