The first game was a scoreless battle until the fourth inning when Kalamazoo Valley pushed across two runs. Neither team scored in the fifth inning but it was the Lady Cougars who scored two more runs in the top of the sixth inning. The Lady Red Hawks tried to battle back but only scored one run in the bottom of the sixth. Kalamazoo Valley scored two more runs in the top of the seventh ending the game with a 1-6 Lady Red Hawk loss.
Kiarra Herson pitched all seven innings and allowed 14 hits, three walks, and three strike puts. Jenna Walter hit two singles with an RBI while Anna Castelluccio had two singles. Jaidyn Hutsell and Brenna Madry also had singles in the game.
The second game began like the first with Kalamazoo Valley scoring the first run in the top of the first inning. This did not deter the Lady Red Hawks as they began a rally and scored seven runs in the bottom of the first. The women shut down the Lady Cougar offense for the rest of the game and continued to find ways to score. Lake Michigan scored one in the second, two in the third, and two in the fourth to take the 12-1 win in five innings.
Jaidyn Hutsell dominated the mound allowing five hits, one run, and struck out a batter. Jenna Walter had a great game hitting a home run and a single with three RBI's. Kiarra Herson hit a double and a single with two RBI's while Gabby Rothrock hit a double with two RBI's. Cassidy Zavoral hit two singles with an RBI as Jordyn Swinehart hit a double and a single with an RBI. Anna Castelluccio hit two singles with an RBI while Adianna Rangel hit a single with an RBI. Brenna Madry also hit a single during the game to aid the women.
The women were ranked #20 in the NJCAA DII rankings last week and currently have votes in the polls. This split put the women in second place in the Michigan Community College Western Conference with a 17-5 conference record and a 20-10 overall record.
Lake Michigan will host Grand Rapids Community College on Thursday, April 25, 2019 with a 3:00 pm start.
