Men Could Not Contend With Ranked Chargers

The men traveled to Ancilla College to finish out their Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Western Conference schedule and fell 65-123.

The men struggled against the Chargers defensively as Ancilla was able to score seven quick points right away and never looked back. Lake Michigan continued to compete but could not find a way to connect with the rim missing a lot of shots. The men then tried to force shots which left them down 37-56 at the end of the first half. The Red Hawks only shot 39% from inside the perimeter, 26% outside the perimeter but went 7 for 7 at the free throw line.

The second half was a lot like the first, as Ancilla was able to make their shots and created plays that the Red Hawks had a hard time defending. The Chargers connected outside of the perimeter several times that continued to increase their lead as they were rentless. Lake Michigan did not give up but they were so behind that it was difficult to catch up only scoring 28 points in the second half.

Bryce Saxton (SO/Cassopolis, MI) was the lead scorer with 15 points, 2 blocks, and 2 rebounds. Austin Dukesherer (FR/Grandville, MI) led the men defensively with 9 rebounds and 10 points, while Deion Gatson (SO/Cassopolis, MI), Khaire Williams (FR/Detroit, MI), and Adrien Bucha-Moore (FR/Dowagiac, MI) all had 8 points each.

Even though they lost this evening, the men are still contenders in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XII District 9 Tournament. The men will travel to a higher ranked seed on Tuesday, March 6, 2018. The Red Hawks are 14-15 overall and 10-6 in the MCCAA Western Conference.
