Tough Loss For The Red Hawks on Sophomore Night

The Red Hawks hosted Muskegon Community College on their last conference home game that was also sophomore night. Both teams were tied at 10-6 in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Western Conference heading into tonight. The men fell short losing 75-91 and moved into 4th place in the conference.

The game started out with a fast pace and both teams battled back and forth with the lead changing five times. The Red Hawks went up by four points in the beginning that was quick lived as the Jayhawks executed on fast breaks to end the half head (47-38). Muskegon out shot Lake Michigan in the first half as the Red Hawks only connected 38% for inside the paint, 31% from the three point range, and 50% from the free throw line.

The second half was much like the end of the first, as Muskegon took the lead and made it difficult for the Red Hawks to catch up. Even though the men did not give up, Muskegon was relentless from inside the perimeter and they were able to take advantage of Lake Michigan's mistakes out-rebounding them 56 to 46. The Jayhawks outscored the men in the second half by seven points and Lake Michigan fell 75-91.

Gavin Rasler (SO/Niles, MI) had a double double with 23 points,12 rebounds, and two assists. Austin Dukesherer (FR/Grandville, MI) had 16 points while Deion Gatson (SO/Cassopolis, MI) had 13 points and eight rebounds and Malik Hall (SO/Benton Harbor, MI) had 11 points.

The men will travel to Ancilla College for their last conference game on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 with a 7:30 pm tip-off.
