Red Hawks Struggled At Jackson

The Red Hawks traveled to Jackson College for a conference match-up with the Jets that ended in a 80-91 Lake Michigan loss.

The Jets got off to a hot start and the Red Hawks struggled to keep pace through the first half. The Jets were all over the place defensively, intercepting passes and blocking shots leading to fast break attempts on the other end. The lead ballooned to as much as 18, and the Red Hawks went in to the half down 24-40.

The second half was a stronger half for the Red Hawks. Coming out of the halftime break, it was obvious that the plan was to get opportunities to Gavin Rasler (SO/Niles, MI) around the basket. He was able to use his size and strength to help the men cut the lead down gradually through the half. The men were able to get as low as a six-point margin with 4:00 minutes left to play. The Jets responded to the run and managed the game down the stretch against the Red Hawks pressure to hold on and eventually walk away with the 91-80 victory.

Gavin Rasler led the Red Hawks with 34 points, Bryce Saxton (SO/Cassopolis, MI) added 18 points, and James Smith (SO/Chicago, IL) chipped in with 10 points. The loss drops the Red Hawks to 12-11 overall and 8-4 in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association Western Conference along with being tied for second place with the Jets.

The men will host Grand Rapids Community College on Friday, February 16, 2018 at 7:30 pm.
