The Lake Michigan College Men's Basketball team traveled to Kalamazoo Valley Community College to take on the Cougars in an Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Western Conference matchup and fell 65-67.
The Cougars got off to a hot start offensively getting in the paint where they were able to either finish layups or kick out to shooters for open threes. It led to the Red Hawks chasing from behind for the majority of the first half. The Cougars hit six threes in the half leading them to a 38-30 led walking into half time.
The Red Hawks changed the tone coming out in the second half and went on an 11-2 run to take an early second half lead 41-40. The remainder of the second half was a back and forth affair leading to a dramatic end. Unfortunately, the shots down the stretch did not't fall for the Red Hawks as they missed their final five attempts from the field. The Cougars scored just enough to hold off the Red Hawks 67-65.
Lake Michigan got strong efforts from Bryce Saxton (SO/Cassopolis, MI) with 17 points, Malik Hall (SO/Benton Harbor, MI) scored 14, and James Smith (SO/Chicago, IL) added 12. The loss moves the Red Hawks to 12-10 overall and second place (8-3) in the MCCAA Western Conference.
The Red Hawks next contest is Friday, February 9, 2018 at home against Mid Michigan Community College with a 7:30 pm tip off.
