The Red Hawks hosted Lansing Community College and ended the night with a strong 100-79 win. This puts the men tied for second in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Western Conference with a 4-1 record and a 8-8 overall record.
The first half went back and forth as each team continued to put pressure on each other offensively and defensively. The men tied the score twice in the half with the lead changing six times. Lake Michigan was able to create plays down the stretch and ended the first half ahead by eight points walking off the court with a 52-44 score. The Red Hawks were able to force the Stars to commit 10 turnovers and out rebounded them 20 to 17. Lake Michigan shot 52% from inside the paint, 41% from the three point range, and 87% from the free throw line.
The Red Hawks did not allow Lansing to take the lead in the second half and they were able create plays to keep them at arms length throughout the last part of the game. The men again out scored the Stars and at one point had a 27 point lead which helped clinch the 100-79 win. Lake Michigan went 18 for 34 (52%) from inside the perimeter, 6 for 14 (42%) from outside of the perimeter, and 6 for 9 (66%) from the free throw line.
Gavin Rasler (SO/Niles, MI) was the point leader with 23 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 assists. James Smith (SO/Chicago, IL), Bryce Saxton (SO/Cassopolis, MI), Deion Gatson (SO/Cassopolis, MI), and Malik Hall (SO/Benton Harbor, MI) all had 14 points each as Hall dominated from the inside with 10 rebounds. Ajani Parker (FR/Aurora, IL ) also put up 16 points with 6 rebounds and 1 assist.
