The men hit the road for their second conference game to Mid Michigan Community College and ended the night with a 91-83 win.
The Red Hawks came out swiftly as Gavin Rasler (SO/Niles, MI) scored the first seven points in the game. That was short lived as Mid Michigan was able to get in the lane and create open shots for each other leading to their six point lead at the end of the first half. Lake Michigan ended the half shooting 38% from outside of the paint, 55% inside the paint, and 80% from the free throw line.
Although the Lakers were up, the Red Hawks continued to pressure the Mid Michigan offense and began to shut them down in the second half. The men began to fire off in the three point zone and closed the gap against the Lakers to take the lead with minutes remaining. There were several Red Hawks that became play makers which led to the 91-83 win. Lake Michigan ended the night shooting 45% from the three point range, 54% inside the paint, and 74% from the free throw line.
Bryce Saxton (SO/Cassopolis, MI) was the point leader with 31 points and 9 assists while Gavin Rasler had 24 points and 6 rebounds. Adrien Bucha-Moore (FR/Dowagiac, MI) and James Smith (SO/Chicago, IL) both had 7 points, as Smith also had 8 rebounds. Ajani Parker (FR/Aurora, IL ) stepped up for the men and was able to score 6 points and had 5 rebounds.
The Red Hawks will host Jackson College on Friday, January 12, 2018 at 7:30 pm. Currently the men are 2-0 in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Western Conference with a 6-7 overall record.
