Lake Michigan hit the road to face off against Don Bosco Preparatory this evening and came out with a 82-80 overtime win.
The game started off slow for the Red Hawks as they were out scored in the first half 35-38. Both teams came to play in the second half although Don Bosco was able to obtain a fourteen point lead with fourteen minutes remaining. The men, even though they faced a long athletic zone from their opponent, were able take a two point lead with ten seconds left in the game Don Bosco drew a foul and their shooter tied the game which put the teams into overtime.
The Red Hawks went down by four right out of the gate and it began to look bleak. James Smith (SO/Chicago, IL) was able to hit two free throws and then Bryce Saxton (SO/Cassopolis, MI) was able to connect with Deion Gatson (SO/Cassopolis, MI) to tie the game again. Austin Dukesherer (FR/Grandville, MI) stepped up scoring, as he drew contact, and was able to connect with the basket in this free throw attempt. This put the men up by two with six seconds left in overtime. Don Bosco did not give up as they were able to inbound the ball and tried for the deep three that hit the rim but did not go in securing the Red Hawk 82-80 win.
Malik Hall (SO/Benton Harbor, MI) was the top scorer with twenty three points as James Smith was close behind with twenty points. Bryce Saxton also came up with eleven points for the Red Hawks.
The men will travel to Hope JV on November 28, 2017 at 7:30 pm.
